MEREWETHER HOUSE

This split-level home in the beachside suburb of Merewether boasts a colour palette of light neutral tones with spotted gum timber and stone cladding highlights with black frames to windows setting an elegant and contemporary scene.

The dramatic entry featuring cultured stone material and a custom designed timber front door opens to a central double height lightwell and floating timber stairs which flows down to the open-plan living area.

With a large quartz stone island bench, walk-in-pantry and built-in bar fridges, this kitchen was designed for clients who love to cook and entertain.

Rear stacking glazed doors opens the interior living space out to the north-facing entertaining yard and terrace, featuring outdoor kitchen, in-built barbeque, timber decking, pool and spa. Working closely with Northrop Consulting Engineers and with the clients brief in mind, we resolved to remove a column structure that would ordinarily be required at the rear terrace whilst cantilevering the roof and upper storey to maintain a ‘clean’ appearance as requested by the client in their initial brief.

We worked very closely with our client on this project, involving them on all design decisions, sourcing joinery and fixtures to ensure the finished product was everything they hoped for.

The house was designed as a split-level home to address the sloping site and features open planning living areas, four large bedrooms, TV room with an atrium void outlooking the living room and a double garage.
