ACREAGE HOUSE

This sprawling pavilion style home with separate bedrooms wings is connected by a central kitchen and living spaces. The kitchen incorporates a large island bench and butler’s pantry, while the living room features floating timber shelves and a dual access, stone fireplace. The kitchen and dining space features exposed hardwood timber trusses with exaggerated connection details which continues outside to the outdoor entertaining area.

Our palette of natural stone and timber was used inside and out to create a comfortable living environment connected to the surrounding bushland. A timber foot bridge framed by fishponds and natural stone, creates a beautifully calming entry to the home. Floor to ceiling glass bifold doors enhance the surrounding valley view and seamlessly connect the internal and external living spaces.

All the main bedrooms, home office and living areas are positioned to capture the views over the valley with all bedrooms having outdoor access to their own private terrace. While the guest wing, connected to the rear of the main house, features a loft style bedroom accessed by a spiral staircase with a living space and kitchenette below.

The wet edge swimming pool relates to the outdoor entertaining space with its split-level access cascading down the contour of the site. The family of this home had owned the site for some time before deciding to build and would often visit the site to look over the Matcham valley and dream up their forever home. That spot was the starting point for our design.
