ST HUBERTS ISLAND RENOVATION

Our brief was to transform an original 1970s brick house into a light and bright coastal family home. The riverfront property had waves lapping at its shore but a small laundry and bathroom blocked the best views. As a result, all of the interior walls were stripped out to create a vast living and dining area, taking full advantage of the outlook and simultaneously flooding the space with natural light.

Recycled hardwood beams were introduced to reinforce the upper level and roof structure while the original curved staircase was saved and revamped with a Moroccan flavour. The coastal style kitchen, dining and living areas overlook a spectacular panorama, interrupted only by the glitter and sparkle of a full-frontage resort style pool and spa. The ground floor also includes an outdoor kitchen, home cinema, powder room and office.

The upper level now consists of three oversized bedrooms, each with their own luxurious ensuite. The clients son is an award-winning fisherman, therefore his bedroom was custom-designed to accommodate an ever expanding trophy collection, while their daughter’s room features a Turkish style daybed and luxe circular spa bath. The master bedroom has high-pitched raked ceilings with full-height glazing that embraces the canal view and luminous aspect.

To complete the transformation, the tired existing carport was enclosed to become a new double garage while the original was converted into a spacious home office. The tired red-brick exterior was replaced with bright white weatherboards and the old tile roof rejuvenated with new colorbond… surfmist of course! the perfect blend of clean coastal design, with a Hampton’s feel and hint of Moroccan in there to spice things up.
