GABLES HOUSE – SARATOGA WATERFRONT

Given its waterfront location, the design of our ‘Gables House’ took inspiration from a typical Australian boathouse.

As the third waterfront house completed for this client, the brief was to create a design specifically tailored to their immediate needs while providing flexibility for the future. Some of the specific requirements in the brief included creating a separate living and accommodation area to provide a segregated and private space for visiting family; an oversized garage to fit a caravan and a floor plan designed with enough level living space to allow the couple to continue living there into old age.

The Gables House is comprised of two separate pavilions connected by a private outdoor lounge area overlooking an illuminated swimming pool providing an area for the owners to relax or entertain while staying protected from the elements.

The roadside pavilion, with its own living area, bedroom and bathroom, has lift access from the garage allowing the owners to access the main living areas without stairs. The main pavilion on the waterside features an additional bedroom on the ground floor, a generous open plan living room and a contemporary kitchen, all overlooking the water.

Sliding doors extending the entire width of the living room seamlessly connect the indoors with the outdoors as you step down to a flat lawn and the water’s edge. The open plan master suite upstairs includes a bedroom area, walk-in-robe, ensuite, private sitting room and an office connected to a covered balcony with a pitched ceiling and exposed timber beams to frame the view.

To add a sense of warmth, we decided on a palette of natural materials with mixed Australian hardwood floors, a stone fireplace, open-tread timber stairs, stone kitchen benchtops and floor-to-ceiling glazing to capture the view and allow natural light to stream through the house.
