COASTAL DUPLEX

The client brief was to create a pair of two-story duplexes designed with a fresh and coastal feel.

After knocking down the existing cottage, we were left with a relatively flat blank canvas to create this modern coastal duplex development.

The ground floor, with level access from the street, contains an open-plan kitchen and living area which seamlessly flow to an outdoor covered entertaining space and flat backyard. On this same level, there is a private courtyard providing a second protected outdoor space, and a bedroom. Allowing older occupants, the ability to live on one level without needing to use the stairs. Upstairs are an additional two bedrooms with ensuites.

The site was quite narrow, so we had the challenge to create the pair of duplexes that felt open and spacious without appearing like a corridor. The integration of raked ceilings over the living areas and void spaces above the foyer result in generously proportioned spaces that capture the coastal lifestyle.

Skylights above the kitchen fill the crisp white living room with natural light, creating a bright and inviting space.

The exterior mimics that of a traditional coastal or Hamptons style home, with white weatherboards, white colourbond roofing and our signature stone accents framing the garages.
