MACMASTERS BEACH HOUSE
The brief was to create a home connected with its surrounds in a functional, natural and non-intrusive way. A house that was simple, creative and naturally beautiful.
We created a pavilion style home with opposing living and bedroom wings connected by a central foyer and large picture window to frame the lush turfed courtyard and distant tree line. The split-level design follows the natural topography of the gently sloping site.
An open carport structure is connected to the dwelling and feature a stone blade, seamlessly linking the outdoor/indoor transition. Skillion roof forms with raked ceilings accentuate the internal volume and allow natural light to wash over the space.
A combination of sliding and stacking doors, glazed bi-folds and louvres enhance the view of the surrounding bushland and maximise natural ventilation.
Twin raked highlights in the living area hug a central stone fireplace which provide privacy but maintain views into the tree canopy. The sleek modern kitchen with charcoal colour scheme, is warmed up by custom black butt dining table and open shelving. A sunken lounge area exaggerates the high raked ceiling and imposing stone fireplace.
Three generous bedrooms have direct access to the terrace, courtyard and custom-made timber swing.
Carefully stacked random stone cladding was used on the entry blade and combustion fireplace, while Blackbutt timber was used on the bedroom flooring, soffit linings, vanities and custom-made pivot entry door. Concrete style porcelain floor tiles were used in the living area, laundry and bathrooms, and pavers were used on external terraces to soften the transition to outside and provide a welcome relief from the linear design elements. Powder-coated aluminium window frames with Monument matt finish capture the view and frame the surrounding landscape.
Kind words from the client: “Everywhere, I look I see the most beautiful angophora trees and my home has a strong connection to the 2 acre rural block, with beauty and functionality. Cathy was so lovely to work with and helped me achieve everything on my brief without compromising my budget.” J.Morton
