PEARL BEACH RENOVATION
Pearls on the Beach has been an iconic restaurant on the Central Coast for decades. The original building, which houses the restaurant along with two 2-bedroom apartments above and adjacent to the restaurant, is a widely recognisable building in the community.
When we were engaged to renovate the existing building, we wanted the design to maintain the bones and original form of the dwelling while giving it a coastal low-density upgrade. The brief included renovating the front apartment, extending, and renovating the side apartment and upgrading the façade.
We converted the beachfront two-bedroom unit into a 3-bedroom apartment and gave the interiors a fresh, coastal feel. An open-plan living space features washed oak floors and a modern kitchen with a stone island bench positioned to capture the view. The living area is connected to an expansive balcony by glass sliding doors that conceal within the walls.
We extended the second unit over the existing carport, in a split-level design adding a new master bedroom, ensuite and balcony positioned to better capture the view over the beach. The floorplan was reconfigured to create better access to both units and the carport below.
The façade was modernized with new weatherboard cladding, new colourbond roofing and our signature stone features. We specified a laser cut aluminium entry gate and aluminium timber look slats as an aesthetic feature while ensuring easy maintenance in a coastal environment.
